Internet down? Sales keep going

The cashier keeps taking orders and collecting payment, the kitchen gets its printed ticket, and every order is kept on the device until the connection returns and it syncs on its own.

Why an internet outage is the riskiest moment for a restaurant

The connection drops at the worst moment: peak hour with a long queue. If the till stops, staff go back to pen and paper, handwritten orders never reach sales or stock, and the cash taken does not match the drawer at night. And if a system resends without safeguards, one order can be counted twice.

In Loqma, the till is built on the assumption that the internet will drop: the order is kept on the device, the kitchen gets its ticket, payment is recorded on the order itself, and when the connection returns each order arrives exactly once, with its money and the shift it was sold on.

How it works in Loqma

  • Selling continues on the same screen

An amber line appears at the top, "Offline · selling continues", with the number of orders kept on the device. The cashier adds items, sends and takes payment with the same buttons they know, with no second mode to learn.

  • The kitchen gets its ticket at once

The kitchen ticket prints the moment the order is sent, split across kitchens exactly as when online, with "OFFLINE" printed where the order number goes. When the order syncs, it does not print again.

  • Payment is recorded offline

Take cash, card, Apple Pay or STC Pay, split the payment, work out the change and open the drawer as usual. Payment methods that need the guest's balance (wallet, gift card, points, house account) are greyed out, because nobody can check a balance with the connection down.

  • A temporary receipt for the guest

The guest gets a "Temporary receipt" with the items and amount, stating that the tax invoice is issued when the connection returns. And when the order syncs, its e-invoice is issued.

  • Every order arrives exactly once

Each order carries a fixed reference from the moment it is rung, so if a reply is lost mid-way and the order is resent, the system knows it is the same order and does not duplicate it. A long outage never turns a paid order into a "failed" one.

  • The drawer still balances at night

Payments land on the same shift the order was sold on. The drawer cannot be closed while saved orders hold cash that has not reached the system, because the count would read over by exactly that amount. You see how many, the cash in them, and a "Sync now" button.

The details that matter during an outage

  • On the tablet, a "Saved on this device" list under the ticket: each order's type, time, amount and whether it is paid, with a "Pay" button for those that are not
  • Staff sign in with their code even offline, from the staff list kept on the device
  • A dot beside the staff name at the top: green online, amber offline
  • Sync starts on its own as soon as the connection returns, and a manual "Sync" button sits in the settings
  • A card taken offline is recorded against the payment terminal on your counter, not the online payment gateway
  • If a price changed in the system before the sync, the order is priced at the system's price and the difference shows on the orders board for you to collect
  • Saved orders are tied to the restaurant they were rung in, so they are never sent to another account
  • Adding a round to an open table needs a connection, and the till says so plainly instead of hanging
  • An order the system genuinely refused (not because of the network) goes to review and is never deleted without a decision
  • The same behaviour on the tablet and the desktop app

Offline selling is part of the till itself and is included in every plan: Starter, Growth and Pro. Pricing

Common questions

Yes. If the connection drops while the till is open, you keep selling and collecting cash or card, and the kitchen ticket and temporary receipt print. Orders are kept on the device and sync on their own when the connection returns.

No. Each order carries a fixed reference from the moment it is rung, and the system accepts it once however many times it is resent. If some of its payments arrived before the outage, only the rest is recorded.

Yes, on the payment terminal in your shop if it runs on its own connection. The cashier records the amount and the transaction reference on the order, and on sync it is saved as a payment from your terminal. Online payment itself needs a connection.

The guest gets a temporary receipt, and the tax invoice is issued when the order syncs and reported to Fatoora like any invoice.

The kitchen display reads from the system, so it needs a connection. What reaches the kitchen during an outage is the printed ticket, on the kitchen's own printer. That is why we suggest every kitchen keeps a printer even if it uses the display.

Paying from a guest's wallet, gift card, points or house account; adding a round to an open table; and online store and QR orders, which come through the system. All of them return on their own with the connection.
